Sep 22, 2025

On September 4, the Yucaipa Chamber of Commerce sponsored a ribbon cutting for Mikey’s Liquor, a business founded by long-time friends and business partners Mike Ayoub and Fernando Castro. The festive ceremony was held at the store’s location at 31604 Yucaipa Blvd., bringing together community leaders, Chamber officials, local dignitaries, and business supporters to celebrate the arrival of a new destination for fine liquors, craft beers, and exceptional cigars.

Ayoub and Castro’s partnership spans over 25 years, forged through a shared history as both friends and business associates. Their mutual respect and trust have become the bedrock for this new enterprise, which they proudly introduce as more than just a retail establishment. “We’re businessmen who care about our community,” Castro addressed the assembled guests, his words reflecting a genuine commitment to local engagement. “We love this city and want to be active in supporting and sponsoring local sports teams. We intend to give back to the community by helping residents who are in need.”

Castro’s heartfelt commitment is rooted in personal experience. With candor and humility, he shared with the crowd, “I have a PHD—Poor, Hungry & Determined—from the university of hard knocks. If local non-profits need help in providing for Yucaipa families, we are here to help.” The sincerity of this message resonated deeply with those in attendance, setting the tone for a business whose mission extends far beyond its shelves.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was a lively affair, drawing a notable lineup of civic and business leaders. Stefani Schreurs-Jacoby, Vice President of the Yucaipa Chamber of Commerce, addressed the impact of new businesses in enriching the local economy and the Chamber’s ongoing commitment to nurturing local enterprise. Melissa Monroe and Anthony Phillips, President and Vice President of the Calimesa Chamber of Commerce, were present as well. Melanie Rouse, owner of Uptown Treasure Hunt, joined in welcoming Mikey’s Liquor, while City Council member Judy Woolsey spoke to the value of entrepreneurial spirit in Yucaipa.

Scott Ward, representing County Supervisor Dawn Rowe, and William Boyd from the office of Senator Rosilicie Ochoa-Bogh, attended to offer support and congratulations from their respective offices, underscoring the event’s significance at both city and county levels.

Following the snipping of the red ribbon and presentations, Ayoub and Castro invited guests to enjoy a delicious taco feast provided by 5 Star Tacos Catering.

Employee Joseph Johnson offered a moving testimonial to the supportive environment fostered by Ayoub and Castro. “This is the best job I’ve ever had. First, I love them; they are always there for me giving me good advice. They are like family to me.” Johnson’s words showcased the positive work culture at Mikey’s Liquor, highlighting the owners’ role as mentors and advocates for their staff.

Located conveniently near the freeway at 31604 Yucaipa Blvd., Mikey’s Liquor offers residents and visitors alike a destination for premium products and personalized service.
